There are more than 300 beaches that you can enjoy if you are planning a holiday on the Spanish island.

The island of Majorca is the largest of the Balearic archipelago and lies 170 km from Spain. It is famous for its heavenly beaches, breathtaking bays and nightlife.

If you visit the hinterland of Mallorca, you will find numerous mountain villages, hiking trails and numerous bicycle routes.

Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, is a large, lively and active city. Home to around 500 000 inhabitants, it is a city rich in ancient, modern and contemporary monuments and interesting museums.

It is not very easy to reach Coll Baix beach on the northern coast of the island of Majorca, but it is definitely worth the effort.

To access the beach and enjoy the spectacle of turquoise waters surrounded by unspoilt nature, you will have to follow a path of about one kilometre.

By car or scooter, from Camí de la Muntanya, continue to a hut and then follow the footpath to the beach.

Surrounded by hills and pine forests, Cala Varques is the place where white sand gives way to a turquoise sea so beautiful it looks fake.

The cove can be reached by boat or on foot and has a network of underground caves, the entrance to which can be found at one of the nearby cliffs.

This beach is located in the south of the island of Majorca. Here, rocks alternate with stretches of sand, creating a snorkelling paradise.

Hidden from everything, Cala Mondrago is, however, relatively easy to reach by car, bus (from Cala d'Or) or train from Porto Pedro.

Playa es Trenc is one of Mallorca's most photogenic beaches: an expanse of white sand and turquoise waters make it look like a Caribbean beach.

Located in the south of the island, it is a 15-minute drive from the village of Campos and is easily reached by day from Palma de Mallorca.

From the beach of Es Trenc, you can walk to the secluded beaches of Es Pregons Grans and Es Pregons Petits, two sandy tongues in the beautiful turquoise sea.

The beaches form a semicircular bay opposite the islet of S.lla Gavina where there is a prehistoric cave to visit.

This is Mallorca's most famous and popular beach and is located near Palma de Mallorca. Also known as Es Arenals, it is a long sandy shoreline.

If you like wilder and more secluded beaches, this is not the place for you.

Cala Estellencs is a small rocky cove perfect for those who love diving.

From the site, in fact, you can swim to the sea caves that are right nearby.

ES CARAGOL Es Caragol

In the south of the island of Majorca, Es Caragol is a stretch of beach surrounded by dunes.

Reaching it will cost you half an hour's walk from Cap de Ses Salines, but it will be well worth it.

From Urbanització de Bóquer begins the route to Bóquer Bay, a small rocky bay sheltered from the hordes of tourists.

To reach it you will have to cross some private property. The total distance is 3-4 kilometres.

Cala Deià is a delightful little pebble beach with natural pools.

It is a little busier than the other two we have mentioned above, but still fits into our vision of a paradise beach, wild and not overcrowded.

CALA EN BASSET

Cala en Basset is a small rocky cove near the coastal village of Sant Elm.

The bay of Porto Cristo is located on the east coast of the island of Majorca and is the gateway to visit the Caves of the Dragon, which extend 1200 metres in length and are 25 metres deep.

During the tour you can enjoy classical music concerts inside the cave.

This cove is located on the Formentor peninsula in the north-western part of Majorca. It is a tongue of white sand surrounded by Mediterranean maquis.

CALA AGULLA cala-agulla"/>

The beautiful beach of Cala Augulla is located within the Natural Area of Special Interest, where you will certainly not find any buildings or holiday villages.

The sandy beach is surrounded by low rocks and Mediterranean scrub. It can be reached from the road that connects Capdepera with Cala Ratjada.

Majorca free beaches

On the island of Majorca, there are numerous free beaches, some wild and without services, which can be reached via footpaths.

Some of the free beaches you absolutely must reach are those that are part of the Mondragó Natural Park or the beaches of Cala Mitjana.

Another beautiful free and secret beach is Cala Varques, which can be reached by boat or through a footpath.

Nudist beaches

There are several beaches in Mallorca where nudism is possible. The beaches of Portals Vells, s'Olla and Bella Dona have been officially declared naturist beaches on the island. Other areas where naturism is tolerated include Playa Es Trenc, a beach of white sand and dunes.

If you want to practice naturism, go to the islet of Sa Dragonera: a wild area surrounded by nature.

It can be reached from Sant Elm. Other naturist beaches include Cala Matzoc, Cala Entugores, Cala Petita and the beach Arenal de sa Canova, which can be reached via a path.

Where to sleep

Mallorca is big and the choice of where to stay depends on the type of holiday you are looking for. If you are looking for fun and nightlife the recommended areas to stay are Magaluf or Palma de Mallorca. If, on the other hand, you prefer the sea, the advice is to stay in Alcudia and Pollenca.

If, on the other hand, you prefer a base to explore the wilder and more unspoilt parts of the island then stay near Cala d'Or or Colonia de San Jordi.
